HOW IT STARTED
The Leather Store was launched on Etsy in 2008 by Beckie. We’re proud to be one of Etsy’s most successful leather handbag sellers. Since our launch, we’ve sold over 33,680 bags, received over 10,220 positive reviews and amassed over 40,000 shop admirers.

OUR INSPIRATION
Beckie is The Leather Store's founder and principal designer. Classic 70s handbags are the inspiration behind the brand: soft, supple leather, generously shaped, classic silhouettes with a whisper of bohemian and vintage flair.

Every single item The Leather Store carries has been handmade, designed and approved by Beckie. She works with the tanneries to personally select the leather, textures, and finishes of every item within her brand. Beckie notices the little things because she knows they matter. The leather quality, brass hardware, durable zips, and our trademark floral lining. The Leather Store bags are made well and made beautifully. They are bags that you will carry and enjoy for years to come.

THE CREATIVE PROCESS
Creating each of The Leather Store bags begins in the same way: research, inspiration, and a hand-drawn sketch. There are often multiple revisions until the design is exactly right. Only then will we create a sample to double-check check every tiny detail is perfect before producing the final item.

OUR LEATHER
Selecting the right leather is essential to creating a beautiful handbag or accessory and careful consideration is given to the grain, texture and thickness when matching the leather with each bag design.

Our leathers are developed especially for us by two family-run tanneries with several generations of experience producing beautiful leathers. Our bags are crafted from full-grain vegetable-tanned leather, characterised by its durability, supple feel and subtle tonal variations. Vegetable tanning is the most environmentally friendly and sustainable way to produce leather, as it uses organic materials and avoids harsh chemicals. This traditional tanning method results in a natural-looking, enduring leather which ages beautifully and develops a unique patina over time. Our leathers are certified chrome free.

THE FINISHING TOUCHES
Our handbags and accessories are finished with run-smooth metal zippers, brass hardware and lined in our cheerful floral print fabric.

We include a pure cotton protective dustbag, a recyclable pot of natural leather balm and care instructions with each bag to help you care for your item and keep it looking beautiful for years to come.

SUSTAINABILITY
We care as much about the planet as we do about the quality of our products. We believe in making bags that last in design and wear and can be enjoyed for years to come. We’re constantly looking at new ways of being considerate of our environment and making positive steps to be as sustainable as possible.

Our vegetable-tanned leather is Chrome VI laboratory tested and approved to meet
stringent EU standards.

Both tanneries we work with are REACH compliant. This is a regulatory body of the European Union, created to improve the protection of human health and the environment from the risks posed by chemicals in industry and our everyday lives. Our leathers and nickel-free hardware are REACH compliant.

Our low waste policy means we aim to use as much of each hide as possible. From our larger totes, purses, wallets and accessories down to our leather zip tabs.

Each bag comes with a pure cotton protective dustbag and a recyclable pot of natural leather balm made by a British company.

All of our bags are wrapped and shipped in recyclable packaging.

Every person involved in creating, supplying, and distributing The Leather Store products is paid a living wage.

As a small business, we love supporting fellow small businesses in the UK. We use small businesses for our photography, models, packaging, stationery, ribbons, and everywhere we can!

We have a sustainable returns policy, and any end of line, sample bags and customer returns are donated to charities supporting and helping women.

AUTHENTICITY
All our products are only available from The Leather Store. We’ve been creating gorgeous handbags and accessories since 2008 and are proud of what we do. To protect our brand and ensure our loyal customers receive a unique and authentic product, we do not offer wholesale or dropshipping services and never share our designs or patterns with other companies or individuals. So if you buy from us, you are guaranteed an authentic product.
